Senator Klausmeier Appointed to BRAC Committee

Annapolis - Maryland State Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller has appointed Senator Kathy Klausmeier (D-Baltimore County) to the Joint Committee on Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC). This committee was created by legislation passed during the 2007 Session of the Maryland General Assembly. The BRAC committee is charged with the task of providing continuing legislative oversight of Maryland’s response to changes and opportunities occurring as a result of the BRAC process. In conjunction with other bodies of state government and the local governing bodies, this committee will oversee the approval of improved transportation infrastructure, water and sewer infrastructure, state and local planning processes, affordable housing options, educational facilities, and health care infrastructure.

"I am pleased to be a part of this committee and to help guide Maryland through this exciting process," said Senator Klausmeier, "BRAC will bring with it new jobs and economic growth for Marylanders, but it will also mean an influx of new residents. The infrastructure must be in place to accommodate them."

The Joint Committee on Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) will have Southern Maryland Senator Roy Dyson as its Senate Co-Chair. Senator Klausmeier will be joined by several other Senators from the Baltimore-Washington Corridor on the committee.
