8th District School Construction

As the summer recess comes to an end I want to send the students, teachers, school administrators, staff and families of the Eighth Legislative District the best of wishes for a productive and successful academic year. Some of you may notice construction occurring at our public schools and wonder what is going on. After the combined effort of the Baltimore County General Assembly Delegation, County Executive Jim Smith, and the Baltimore County Board of Education, I am pleased to announce that the Maryland Board of Public Works has approved $52 million dollars in state funding for school construction projects in Baltimore County for fiscal year 2008. The construction projects you see are the result of these efforts. In total, Baltimore County’s share of approved school construction funds amounted for more than 10% of funds allocated statewide. In the Eighth Legislative District projects funded by these allocations include replacement of the roof at Parkville Middle School, and renovations at Pine Grove Middle School and Perry Hall Middle School. This funding is a great boon to our district and for our children. The teamwork that produced these results is something that I will work to see continue in future General Assembly Sessions.
